A brief overview
We are a group of climbers, climbing instructors and hiking guides that have come together to offer the very best adventure experience you can get in the Faroe Islands. John Petersen founded Extreme Faroe Islands in 2016/2017. Before that John Petersen had climbed many sea stacks and done other memorable and challenging climbs around the Faroe Islands, such as Risin, Kellingin, Øldan, Konan, Ytri Kollur, Tindhólmur and Trøllkonufingur.
What we aim to achieve
We want to give something special to our costumers. We arrange hikes around the Faroe Islands. However, we think if you take the next step, and go where climbing gear is required, you will find the best way to experience the beauty of Faroese nature.
Our highest priority
In the Faroe Islands there are currently no regulations on who can arrange dangerous tours that require climbing equipment. This is why Extreme Faroe Islands has set our own rules and standards. We only use climbing, rappelling, and sea stack guides who have a valid international climbing course and an expanded climbing course that focuses on the activities that we offer. All guides must then be approved by the owner, or key members, of the company to be a guide for a specific tour. Due to the harsh, unpredictable conditions of Faroese weather we will always put safety first and reserve the right to cancel any tour that is deemed unsafe. Your safety is our number one priority.
The best ways to experience the islands
Extreme Faroe Islands offers a wide variety of adventures in the Faroe Islands. Ranging from easy, breathtaking mountain hikes to more challenging guided tours to the top of Øldan and Risin. We also offer rappelling and sightseeing by boat (our RIB tour). Common for all our tours is that you don’t need any experience climbing, rappelling or hiking to join. Our guides will look after you and teach you what you need to know. We are located in Klaksvík and arrange adventurous activities on most of the islands. It’s also possible to combine a few activities to get exactly what you want. You can also request a special, or new, tour. We’ll examine your request and if we find it safe we’ll arrange the tour.
We aim to preserve the beauty of Faroese nature
We respect and love the Faroese nature. We always want to leave the nature in the same, or better, condition when a tour has finished. We always get permission from the landowner before starting a tour. We don’t allow costumers to take rocks or flowers from any of our locations. Please don’t leave any trash behind in order to preserve our beautiful country. It is forbidden to chase sheep and birds that nest must not be disturbed. Climbing sheep fences is also prohibited.
